A Quilting Pause

There was no quilting accomplished this weekend.  On Friday afternoon, about 4:00 p.m. Robert and I drove up to Saratoga, NY for a quick long weekend.  On Friday night we went to the Thirsty Owl for dinner - it was fabulous.  The food was great and the wine was good, too.  After dinner we went into the town - Rob bought a hat and I bought a tee shirt, and then we had gelato (I had pistachio).   On Saturday, we drove up to Lake George and had breakfast at the Sagamore.  After breakfast, we went on one of our favorite hikes - at a place called Amy's Park.  After that we went back to Saratoga, and because we liked the Thirsty Owl so much on Friday - we decided to go there again.  This time, we sat at the bar and did a wine tasting.  We also had a cheese board and clams - not a full meal but enough to keep us from getting too tipsy on the wine.  We ended up buying a mixed case of wine.  After that, we went into town and walked around a bit.  We each had a slice of pizza and then went for gelato again (this time I had cookies and cream).  Sunday, we just had the free breakfast at our hotel and then headed to the track.  For lunch I had a burger and fries and Rob had a cheesesteak sandwich.  We didn't do well on betting that day - I won one race and got $26.  All the other races were a bust.   I think we learned that we should go with our gut more often.  In one of the races, there was a horse named Benny is a Jet - Rob and I both thought we should bet on that horse, but neither one of us did, and he ended up winning.  After our day at the track we went to the Crown Grill for dinner.  I had swordfish and Rob had steak - very very good.  I also had creme brulee for dessert and Rob had gelato.  Then, as if we hadn't already gambled enough that day, we decided to go to the casino.  We planned to each spend $20 and then call it a night.  That turned out to be the best 15 minutes I've spent in a long time - my machine paid $126.  I cashed that out and we went back to the room!   On Monday, we again ate the free breakfast at the hotel and then went up to Lake George and went on another hike.  It was at a place called Pole Hill Pond.  There were two hikes, a 3 mile and a 1 mile.  We did the 1 mile hike, which was fairly hilly and very rugged.  It was often difficult to find the trail markers, but it was actually kind of fun.  When the hike was done, we went to The Algonquin for lunch.  I had a turkey panini and Rob had a turkey club.  After lunch we drove home.  It was an enjoyable fun weekend.
